01 Evan Di Una Pethan  :
This might me next big thing for Silambarasan  after the success of “LOOSU PENAEE” .

(Silambarasan) dares to kill the father of the Girl right away with the sword sharp Lyrics

“Evan Di Una Pethan
Kaila Kadaicha Sethaan”

The Snazzy and racy pepped up sound track creates an illusion of some one who is madly in love …..

The music is built on foot tapping club style remix which has varied twists and turns all through.

This song is sure to be a rage among youngsters !!!

Engeyum Kaadhal... The title song leaves you binding for repeated listens!! . Will be a chart topper .Lyricist TAMARAI is at her very best … A very beautiful love ballet .Aalap Raju catches the feel and expels it to perfection .SHOW STOPPER TUNE  of the album .

Thee Illai...  Holds interest for Naresh Iyer vocals. A laid back and serene tune ,melodies with simple&  nuanced arrangements.

Nangaai...Tamil diction by Richard seems to be purpose full and seems like aping late MJ ‘s track  and style in every aspect

Lolita.... brings back the album’s soul –Karthick expressive vocals and ambient arrangements sit well atop the charming & funky  tune

Bathing at Cannes... sounds odd. Harris tries to create a hiphop style track filled with English rap ( 2 min) .  Emcee Jesz, Kash, Krissy duo create a raunchy hook feel to this track. An experimental from  Harris.

Nenjil Nenjil... An amalgamation of instruments from Harris (MIRUDHANGAM, FLUTE, PERCUSSIONS) ,all working in perfect sync with earthy vocals and melancholic lyrics of MADHAN KARKY. A tune that tantalizingly touches youe soul right away

Dhimu Dhimu... Dhimu dhimu = Chilipiga( Harris simply recycles this tune from orange(telugu ).Simple old melody tune with simple arrangements . works well

HARRIS COMES BACK WELL WITH ENGEYUM KADHAL…THUMBS UP

Enthiran movie review

This movie redefines Tamil commercial cinema. DIRECTOR  SHANKAR   implants seed in the minds of people who like to take leadership & inspire in giving the world original inventions from the east

Sujatha who wrote the SCI –FICTION novel “En Iniya Iyanthira” inspired from a story named “BI CENTENNIAL MAN” written by ISSAC ASIMOV(well pronounced in the song BOOM BOOM DA….ROBO DA), published in 1975.

Enthiran is an excitement, entertainment & huge dream amounting from SHANKAR.

SHANKAR beefs up his arsenal with SUPERSTAR, late Sujatha, Yuen Woo Ping (action sequence for films like Matrix… along with peter Hein), Stan Winston Studios (visual effects for films like Ironman, Terminator....), Rathnavelu (cinematographer who is responsible for lighting and effects), Industrial Light & Magic (special effects for films like Avatar, Star Wars, and Titanic) along with Oscar winners AR Rahman(music composer) & Rasool pukutty…

SUPERSTAR RAJNIKANTH ….. An unstoppable force to reckon with, magnetizes the Tamil audiences spread across the length and breadth of the geographical boundaries

STORY:
Scientist Vaseegaran creates Chitti, a humanoid robot. Vaseegaran needs approval from scientist committee to make more like chitti that can be inducted into the army. Due to certain flaws in Chitti  (not able to distinguish b/w right and wrong, good and bad ) needed in a warfare. Vaseegaran’s   trusted guide and advisor Professor Bohra, refuses to give clearance and  is jealous of his students inventions and terms chitti as stupid .

Vaseegran decides to modify his creation and gives him free will through AI (Artificial Intelligence) that will emote chitti which later becomes a disaster to the creator himself, as chitti begins to love Sana- Vaseegran’s love interest.

Vaseegran destroys chitti and throws him into trash barrel, later found by Professor Bohra and uses him for his money making business in turn guarantees him to reach to Sana.

Professor implants a red chip in Chitti, which will make him nothing less than an evil minded sinister.

Chitty turns into a Frankenstein(3rd Rajnikanth in the movie), kidnaps Sana, kills Bohra and later starts a revolution. Creates similar humanoids which he uses to protect himself and Sana from others and in particular Vaseegaran

Vaseegaran’s initial attempts all end in vain, skillfully drafts a plan and succeeds in it all adding up to the BIGGEST SPECTACLE IN TAMIL CINEMA, as promised by the team.

The first half is a smooth and fun ride with Chitty taking centre stage. The action sequence on the sub urban train is alluring!! The second half is truly a bonanza for viewers. In a climatic sequence, thousands of humanoids link themselves together to form a huge drill, giant ball firing bullets, a massive python (that literally engulfs cars, people, a tower and finally a towering giant who bursts from the underground far beyond the imagination of cinema goers.

SONGS and PICTURISATION:

The movie has 3 show stopper songs. When it comes to visualization Shankar excels with magnificence.

Kilmanjaro ; the tribal song shot at one of the world’s  heritage spot  is fantastic . Aishwariya dazzles.
Chitti dance show; springs up the hidden dance skills in Superstar.
Kadal Anukkal ; the visualization of the song is a real treat for Rajini fans!!
ARIMA ARIMA : portrays the Superstar in a larger than life image !!

VERDICT:
ENTHIRAN is not just a movie, an experience and excitement that needs to be seen. SUPERSTAR RAJNIKANTH ….. An unstoppable force to reckon with; magnetizes the Tamil audiences spread across the length and breadth of the geographical boundaries. A landmark in TAMIL FILM ...

Semmozhiye ; SPB is in great form .Has an ambient sound all through.  A staid tune from, DHEENA.

Sarakku Readya: Is a strange mishmash. Pedestrian track, that goes beyond nothing.

Anjile Ondrai ;  brim with spiritual  devotion at opening . Sparking backgrounds, agitated & charged up tune fills up this number .

Maga dheera(2) : a peppy number, the odd one out with its intolerably outdated tune, but the soundtrack ends well with the simple and rhythmic tune .

Kottudhada Kaasu: Roping in BLAZEE to rap in Tamil doesn’t seem to be working for DHEENA . Rhythms are recycled beyond imagination. Terrible soundtrack!

Dhinna churns out mediocre album at rocket speed !!

SV05. Eraivaa...
Singers : Ranjith, Rahul Nambiar & Naveen Madhav
          Lyricis : Vairamuthu
SV06. Theme Of Love...

Thamn’s humming is rooted in THIKI THIKI .The composer vivifies yuvan’s THULI THULI(Paiyaa).  Impeccably arranged, functional music…

‘Yen peru krishnaveni..’ looks similar to ‘En Peru Meenakumar’i from Kandasamy lyrically  . Tune wise it lacks that punchy hook, instead Thaman offers gorgeous semi Hindustani platform and adds charming layers that builds up gradually on and off..

Thaman beefs up with his arsenal in KUTHUDU. Naveen(vocalist) expands all through while Thaman gradually picks up the orchestration, holding back the tune.

Orchestration& tune wise Puducha looks similar to ‘Oh Baby nee devamirdam’ from MALAIKOTTAI by Manisharma. The most striking aspect of the soundtrack is the lack of conventional tune structures- unconventional bits hitting off & on immediately!

An agitated, charged up tune fills up ERAIVAA…a pulsating, non-stop beat; that traverses in many interesting ways, supported ably by the 3 singers.

Theme of love…  a lovely  melody with marvelous arrangements. Vocalist evoke that oomph..

Thaman undeniably has that potential. Yet vivifies others at many places…

SV05.
Pain Of Love...
Singers : Sriram Parthsarathy & Swetha Mohan
          Lyricis : Viveka

The short and sweet melody Noorandu Vazhga...  is a fair to middling track, lyrics filled with sublime emotions.

Vaa Pulla... lyrically speaks about the transition of mind travelling from a urban Chennai to small town. Folksy tune, rehashing every known element of old tunes.

Unakkanka Uireyvaithen...  is typical Imman’s fabric- stocked rhythm, modal    euphony…

Imman falters in Thambikottai Kanaga....   Kuthu number in this album, uses every known constituent of his previous compositions. (Odi odi vilayadu- Masilamani,  Madurai Jilla macha than di – Thiruvilaiyadal) .

Pain Of Love...Starts slow and later become incongruous / inharmonious at places, fails to generate an impact.

          Lyricis : Kumararaja
SV05.
The Quarter Song : Club Mix...
          Remix : Dj Vijay Chawla

The best track shines of as; Thediyae Thediyae - Andrea’s haunting vocals are absolutely on top. Tamil diction by Andrea could have been better.

Boozy vocalized effects brim in Unnai Kan Thedhudhe – G.V manages to capture, a state of deeply felt distress.

The Club mix version (Remix By: Dj Vijay Chawla) fairly predictable tune and is unimposing.

Saarpu Saarpu Jihas earthily funny lyrics, simplistic tune but the crack appears at places

The composer doesn’t strain himself in Saudi Basha – skillfully wraps it in Arabic euphony.

CWG THEME--- Oh yaaron, yeh.....

 Short take on CWG Theme
Language: ‘Swagatham’ is written in Hindi with a few English words.
Lead Singer: A.R. Rahman
Launch Date: August 28, 2010.

The composer about whom I’ve praised enthusiastically in this blog is none other than   A R Rahman –the way he has changed the INDIAN film music.

Having composed two theme songs
  1. Gujarat’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
  2. World Classical Tamil Conference.

Third being CWG theme.  The nation seems to be un-inquisitive about CWG, so seems to be A R Rahman .

My question is “what is the shelf life of these theme songs?”

I’m befuddled with the idea of using a celebrated, globally renowned composer for scoring a theme song that may never be used or remembered beyond one evening

The Composition:
Rahman merely creates a track which appears to be having an influence of mid 80’s or 90’s English rock music-repetitive bass riffs and regular chords played on the off beat by a guitar. The awesome amalgamation of Mandolin, percussion/drums, keyboards are interesting and lilting too. Rahman gets back his senses at the end and realizes that this theme song is intended for Indian People and lends in Dholak pieces to wrap it up.

Singers:
AR Rahman has bestowed his soaring vocals for maximum impact. Rapper Blazzee peps up with English wordses, quite forced, unnecessary and pointless.

Vibrant, stylish and vernal music addressing urban mortals; will fail to impregnate masses from sub-urban, towns and villages.

I personally believe that these initiatives gain more from Rahman’s name attached to them, rather than Rahman gaining anything from them (A whooping 5+ Cr pay for 4 1∕2
minute song). That, of course, does not make it any less important for Rahman to decline such opportunities, but I really wonder why an incredibly busy composer who has top-ranked directors and producers waiting in queue outside his house to sign him for their projects, agree to such one-off efforts that may be used once in their life time and idolized only by fanatic followers?

Lyricis: Na. Muthukumar Released Year: August : 2010

1. Ada Boss Boss...
          Singers : Sathiya
          Lyricis : Na. Muthukumar

2. Yar Antha Ponuthan...
          Singers : Haricharan

4. Ilo Iloo....
          Singers : Vijai Prakash
          Lyricis : Na. Muthukumar
5. MaMa Mama...
Singers : Vijai Jesudas & Suvetha
          Lyricis : Na. Muthukumar

The album starts with ‘Ada Boss Boss... ’ peek intro, into the sluggish lifestyle of a carefree soul

Yar Antha Ponuthan...has a melancholic tune that is absorbing and appealing .The background takes back to yesteryear tune from ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’

The highlight of the album ‘Thaithi Thavum Per Nan...’ starts off well with Yuvan’s usual style and experiments, music being mostly groovy and hip hop styled. Addictive rhythm enthralling listeners

Golden vocal boy ‘Vijayprakash’  has been used by yuvan  for “ Ilo Iloo....” . After repeated listens, the tune is absolutely breezy with a punchy hook.

MaMa Mama... is loud with typical kuthu-style arrangements for rightful reasons that is  sure to be an executive DUET.
Starts off well with [nadaswaram, thavil….] and gradually wrapped off well with predominant orchestration.

After a wonderful Nan Mahan alla  Yuvan reverberates well with Boss Engira Bhaskaran

Uchu Kotta Ichu Vachu : Sparkling backgrounds add that extra oomph. A lovely, longing tune sung by Gopal rao -A well-orchestrated duet with elaborate violin pieces at intervals. Hallmark of Vidyasagar.

Thekku Maramaattam : Vel Murugan & Manikka Vinayagam both are outrageously exceptional in singing folk’ish song, Metaphor lyrics. (Must listen)

Selai Kattiya Sevvanthi:Poor rehash of yester year song Dilbar jaane...' from 'Kalaignan' starring Kamal .Vidyasagar makes use of this tune and succeeds exceptionally.

Oothu Thanni Aathoda: An enchanting, delightful melody (must listen). Karthick &Sandirayi have captured the universal feel that overflows relentlessly all through.

Kanne Kaniurangu : A lullaby song sung by Madhubala & Binni ,meaning full lyrics brimming with the feelings of motherhood .

Vidyasagar bounces back confidently with his unique brand of melodies!  With 3 respectable tracks, a very competent effort .

Neeye Yenn Kadhali music review

Neeye Yenn Kadhali [2010]
Banner: Expression Media
Cast: Uday & Priya Sharma
Direction: Chinni Jayanth
Production: Saravana Kumar
Music: PremKumar
Lyricis: Nedunchezian & Kavi Varma
Released Year: Aug : 2010

Director turned Actor Chinni Jayanth’s Neeye Yenn Kadhali music is temperate, a
fair to middling effort by PremKumar

1. Iravinil Undhan : A stale tune that is listenable ,Chinmayi voice is flat devoid of any modulation.

2. Kottuthu Paaru...Chinni Jayanth voice may not be working wonders , Jaded track that seems exhausted after one time listen.

3. Rasikka Seyi... Suchitra’s voice is wrapped up in ambient orchestration ,good listen

4. Vaadi Macheen: A terrestrial Kuthu Track , that’s a lot to say .

5. Yennai Izhuthu... Amateurish – pretty middling and tunes that are minimal catchy .The cracks appear to show at regular intervals..

Music Director , PremKumar has done an assembly line work , Capable of much better stuff in his future projects…
